First Generation in Law Circle - Panel Discussion No Map. No Playbook. Wednesday 18th of February 2027 · 6:00pm 36, Level 7 , 88 Pitt Street , Sydney Most people in the legal profession don't talk about where they started. But for first-generation lawyers those who entered the profession without a parent, a sibling or a family friend who had been there before, the starting point looks very different. No one to call when you don't understand the system. No insider knowledge of how clerkships really work. No warm introduction to the right partner. Just determination, ability and the constant feeling that everyone else got a playbook you never received. This panel brings together lawyers who started from exactly that place, and built remarkable careers anyway. They will speak honestly about what the journey actually looked like. The barriers that were real. The moments that almost broke them. The people who opened doors. And what they wish someone had told them at the very beginning. If you are a first-generation lawyer or law student, this conversation was made for you. And if you are not, this is your chance to understand an experience that is far more common in this profession than most people realise. This session will explore: What it really looks like to enter law without a network or a roadmap The barriers first-gen lawyers face that others don't see How to build connections and find mentors when you are starting from zero What the profession needs to do to level the playing field Places are limited to 40.
