Google Demonstrates Gemini Enterprise for Legal Applications
Google recently provided an overview of its Gemini Enterprise platform, showcasing its potential applications for legal professionals. The presentation was led by Xavier Polidoro, Legal Counsel at Google Cloud, and included demonstrations of various tools designed to enhance legal workflows.
The session highlighted the functionality of what Google refers to as Cloud Legal AI Helpers, which are customisable solutions integrated with Gemini Enterprise for Legal. These tools aim to assist lawyers in various tasks, including document management and client communications.
Key features presented included general prompting capabilities for contract summaries and risk flagging, as well as the use of NotebookLM for grounded research. This tool allows legal teams to search and summarise extensive legal documents while providing source citations.
Polidoro also discussed the development of customised agents that can be tailored to specific tasks, such as redlining documents or drafting briefs. This flexibility is intended to enhance efficiency in legal operations.
In addition, the demonstration included a walkthrough of how legal teams can create and deploy custom chatbots for deal management, although the terminology used raised some questions regarding the clarity of Google’s branding and product offerings.
Polidoro noted that the Cloud Legal AI Helpers are available in two versions: Pro and Flash. Each can be connected to various data sources and customised to meet the specific needs of legal teams. One example given involved using playbooks to improve language in documents, which could streamline the drafting process.
Google emphasised its commitment to data privacy, stating that it does not train its models on any client legal data. This assurance may be particularly relevant for legal professionals concerned about confidentiality and data security.
