Harvey Acquires Benchmark Asset Management Startup to Enhance Legal Solutions

Harvey has announced its acquisition of Benchmark, a New York based decision infrastructure platform for asset management. This acquisition aims to bolster Harvey's capabilities in legal work associated with the asset management sector, which is experiencing significant growth.
Benchmark assists investors in making informed decisions by capturing and leveraging their institutional knowledge to gain a competitive advantage in new deals. Harvey's CEO, Winston Weinberg, clarified that this move is not an expansion beyond legal services but rather a strategic enhancement to support legal activities within asset management.
Harvey currently collaborates with 50 asset management firms, including notable names such as Blue Owl Capital, Bridgewater Associates, and KKR. The focus of these collaborations includes workflows related to investment due diligence, data room analysis, and the review of deal documents.
The acquisition will see Benchmark's co founders, Alec Dunn and Connor Janson, along with their team, integrate into Harvey's product and engineering division. This marks Harvey's third acquisition in 2026, following a record second quarter where the company reported an increase of over $100 million in net new annual recurring revenue.
Benchmark's platform enhances Harvey's offerings across the entire deal process, from initial screening to investment committee review. The platform is already trusted by firms managing over $2 trillion in assets. Notably, Benchmark has received investment from Y Combinator and the Outsiders Fund.
Weinberg noted that Benchmark emerged as a trusted tool among Harvey's asset management clients. He stated that the acquisition aligns with a shared conviction that a firm's competitive edge lies in its institutional knowledge, and that artificial intelligence should facilitate the capture and application of that knowledge.
Co founders Alec Dunn and Connor Janson expressed their enthusiasm for the acquisition, highlighting that Benchmark was founded on the principle that a firm's advantage resides in its past deals and that much of this knowledge remains untapped. They view Harvey as a leading application layer company in the artificial intelligence space, making this acquisition a natural fit given their existing shared clientele.
This acquisition is part of a broader trend in the legal technology sector, where companies like Harvey and its main competitor, Legora, are actively pursuing mergers and acquisitions to enhance their service offerings. While Legora has also acquired several smaller startups, Harvey's focus remains firmly within the legal domain, leveraging the growth in legal work generated by asset management.
