Harvey Integrates DeepL for Enhanced Legal Translation Services

Harvey has announced its selection of DeepL to enhance its legal translation capabilities. This integration will allow users to access DeepL's AI driven document translation services directly within the Harvey platform.
DeepL currently supports over 100 languages and is expected to manage more than a third of Harvey's total document translation volume. The integration addresses a growing need for reliable translation services as Harvey expands its user base, which now includes thousands of lawyers across 70 countries.
As highlighted by DeepL, effective cross border legal work relies on the swift and accurate translation of various legal documents, including contracts, filings, briefs, evidence, and client materials. These documents often contain complex language that requires precise translation.
Lauren Oh, Product Manager at Harvey, stated that the integration of DeepL's translation capabilities will provide legal teams with a faster and more seamless method for working across different languages while ensuring the accuracy and precision of content.
Jarek Kutylowski, Founder and CEO of DeepL, noted that legal work typically involves extensive documentation that can span hundreds of pages and various formats. He expressed that DeepL's platform is specifically designed to handle this complexity, affirming the company's position as a leader in the Language AI market.
The integration of DeepL reflects the increasing importance of language and translation within legal workflows as artificial intelligence continues to be embedded in legal practices globally. Harvey's platform is already witnessing a significant demand for document translation, making it one of the most utilised workflows.
While general purpose language models can perform translations, they are not exclusively designed for this purpose. DeepL's models are specifically tailored for translation and editing, which is particularly crucial in legal contexts where accuracy, nuance, terminology, consistency, and context significantly impact document interpretation.
DeepL also ensures that document translation goes beyond mere text conversion by preserving the formatting, structure, and visual context of the original documents.
Customers of Harvey will have the option to choose whether to utilise DeepL for their translation needs, as it is now integrated into the platform. This flexibility allows teams to select DeepL as their preferred translation engine.
In addition, Harvey is preparing for two major Legal Innovators Conferences in November, taking place in London and New York. These events will feature discussions on the latest advancements in legal technology and innovation.
