Junior City Lawyer Tyler Johnson Selected as Candidate for Restore Britain in Holborn By Election

Tyler Johnson, a junior City lawyer, has been announced as the candidate for Restore Britain in the upcoming Holborn and St Pancras by election. The announcement was made by Restore leader Rupert Lowe, who urged supporters to back Johnson in an effort to reclaim the capital city.

Johnson, who trained at Clyde & Co and qualified in 2024, has spent the last two years at the firm focusing on corporate finance. He is currently employed in house at CNOOC International, a prominent Chinese state owned oil and gas company, where he supports new ventures across Africa, Asia, the Caribbean, and Central and South America.

In his announcement, Lowe expressed his enthusiasm for Johnson's candidacy, highlighting the lawyer's deep connection to London, where he has lived for the past decade. Johnson's experience includes mentoring roles with Grow Mentoring, a charity dedicated to enhancing diversity and inclusion within the legal sector, and Strive, which shares similar objectives.

Johnson's online presence includes a Linktree page that features a fundraising initiative aimed at promoting anti racism, racial justice, and equality. However, there may be concerns regarding the alignment of his professional background and advocacy with some of Restore's political positions, which include calls for the removal of the asylum system and the abolition of diversity, equity, and inclusion initiatives across government departments.

Additionally, Lowe has previously made statements regarding reparations from China, citing the country's role in the emergence of Covid 19. Johnson did not provide a comment when approached for further insights on his candidacy.

The Holborn and St Pancras by election is scheduled for 8 October, following Sir Keir Starmer's resignation as the local Member of Parliament. This election presents an opportunity for voters to express their views on the current political landscape in the capital.
