Scissero and Mayer Brown Collaborate on Integrated Issuance Solution for Structured Products

Scissero, a legal AI pioneer, has announced a partnership with the prominent US law firm Mayer Brown to develop an integrated issuance solution for structured products. This collaboration aims to combine Scissero's AI workflow and document verification technology with the legal expertise of Mayer Brown's lawyers.

The partnership will initially focus on SEC registered structured products within the United States. However, both parties anticipate that the underlying workflow will also extend to exempt offerings, European structured products, structured unit investment trusts, and defined outcome products.

Scissero operates as both a legal technology company and an AI enabled legal business. In this collaboration, Mayer Brown will provide legal services while contracting through Scissero Ltd., which focuses on legal technology. Scissero's contribution includes a legal workflow technology and a document verification layer that enhances the delivery of legal services.

Jon Van Gorp, Chair of Mayer Brown, expressed confidence in the initiative, stating that it will significantly benefit financial institutions and leverage AI's advantages in an area where the firm has established itself as an innovator.

The structured products market in the United States is substantial, with approximately USD 228 billion in structured products sold in 2025 and around USD 605 billion outstanding by July 2026. Despite the automation of many aspects of the issuance process, the legal review of transaction documentation remains a critical bottleneck, with issuers spending over USD 100 million annually on legal fees.

The U.S. market has struggled to achieve true straight through processing compared to Europe, primarily due to its litigious nature and the necessity for thorough legal review of offering documentation. Scissero's technology aims to address these challenges by providing greater confidence in system generated documentation, thereby enabling more efficient legal reviews while maintaining necessary oversight.

Mathias Strasser, CEO of Scissero, highlighted that the collaboration is not solely AI driven but rather a legal workflow platform incorporating significant AI components. The AI is utilised to verify the document automation logic and the documentation produced, combining deterministic validation with AI based analysis.

Strasser noted that the idea of bringing straight through processing to the U.S. structured products market has been a long standing vision, and the partnership with Mayer Brown represents a strategic alignment of legal technology and services. This collaboration aims to deliver a more efficient issuance process, with potential implications for broader applications in other legal practice areas.
