Wordsmith Secures 14 Million Dollar Series B Extension to Enhance Legal Technology Offerings

Wordsmith has successfully raised an additional 14 million dollars in an extension to its Series B funding round, which originally took place in June. This extension was led by new investment from Intact Private Capital, with participation from existing investors Highland Europe and Index Ventures. FT Ventures has also joined as a shareholder in Wordsmith.
This latest funding builds upon a previous raise of 70 million dollars completed approximately two months ago. A spokesperson for Wordsmith stated that the total capital raised to date amounts to 114 million dollars, which includes 5 million dollars from seed funding, 25 million dollars from Series A, and the initial 70 million dollars from Series B, followed by the recent 14 million dollar extension. The company has opted not to disclose its valuation.
The additional capital is intended to bolster Wordsmith's presence in North America and to strengthen its foothold in the financial services and insurance sectors. This strategic move comes during a period of rapid growth for the company, which now boasts over 500 clients, including notable names such as BT, FT, Sage, Starling, Canva, and Safelite.
Ross McNairn, CEO and co founder of Wordsmith, highlighted the importance of the platform in transforming legal operations. He noted that every dollar spent on outside counsel represents a decision made by legal teams, often defaulting to external solutions due to a lack of internal infrastructure. Wordsmith aims to provide this necessary infrastructure, allowing AI agents to handle routine tasks while legal professionals focus on matters requiring their expertise.
McNairn further explained that the platform records every step of the process, resulting in a legal function that retains more work in house, reduces reliance on external counsel, and demonstrates its value to the business.
The extension of funding rounds is a common practice, reflecting investor confidence in Wordsmith's growth trajectory and their desire to be part of its ongoing success. This trend also indicates that the legal technology and legal AI markets are increasingly focused on tangible uptake metrics, rather than being influenced by speculative market trends.
